The sister cities program promotes dialog between the peoples of Nashville and Magdeburg. First and foremost, a partnership between cities is given life through personal contact. As a result of such contact, the past several years have seen the development of several cooperative efforts, many of which have already come to fruition, such as the very successful Anderen Dienst im Ausland (Gap Year Abroad) program. Such endeavors are doubly important, as it is the exchange of youth that ensures the future partnership of sister cities. Youth embody the spirit of international and intercultural exchange, which will only grow in importance as the world continues to shrink. For these reasons, our friendships across the pond remain so critical and meaningful.
