Five years magdeburg-nashville.com
Greetings on the occasion of the 5-year anniversary of the dual-language internet portal magdeburg-nashville.com
Mayor Dr. Lutz Trümper
This year, the city partnership between Magdeburg and Nashville, Tennessee will celebrate its 5th year anniversary.
Many engaged citizens of both cities have helped ensure the development of our formal partnership into living relationships and friendships as well as many jointly-held projects and events. The past few years have seen countless meetings between the people of both cities as well as the nurturing of contacts between schools, universities, nonprofit organizations, museums, theaters and other cultural institutions.
Special highlights of the partnership certainly include the realization of the Great Magdeburger Hempishere demonstration in Nashville in 2004, the participation of school groups and artists in support of the 1200-year-old Magdeburg Jubilee 2005, the realization of the joint theater project, "das treffen - the other side", as well as the involvement of a Magdeburg delegation in the 200th anniversary celebration of Nashville in 2006.
Several permanent bonds also illustrate the special relationship between our two cities. In Magdeburg, a part of the new Elbuferpromenade was renamed the "Nashville Promenade" and in Nashville now stands a Magdeburg oak, which symbolizes the growth of friendship between both cities.
The partnership between Magdeburg and Nashville greatly contributes to the understanding of cultures, languages, and opinions; it promotes a natural and peaceful coexistence and strengthens international exchange.
The bilingual internet portal www.magdeburg-nashville.com makes a very special contribution to transatlantic understanding. It provides for the networking of people in both cities and establishes successful ties and contacts. For this outstanding commitment, I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to all parties, but especially the German - American dialog Center Magdeburg.
In the future I hope that more of our citizens participate in active exchanges with the people of Nashville and use this internet portal to build bridges over cultural, social, and continental borders.
I look forward to the undertaking of many more projects under the auspices our partnership and all future encounters in Magdeburg and Nashville.
Dr. Lutz Trümper
Mayor of Magdeburg, capital city of Saxony Anhalt
