Local hero from Magdeburg

Friedrich Wilhelm von SteubenFriedrich Wilhelm von Steuben was born in 1730 in Magdeburg. The man who uniquely combined the virtues of unselfishness, military precision and democratic conviction, is praised as one of the founders of German-American friendship.

History

In the year 805 Magdeburg was first mentioned in a document and was chair of Emperor Otto I. who awards the city the right to hold a market, mint coins and collect customs in 968.
