Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for Prof. Dr. Dieter Sevin
Dieter Sevin has been Professor of German Studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville for forty years. Prof. Sevin is active as a volunteer in Sister Cities of Nashville and an avowed Magdeburg fan with close ties to his Sister City and has been a supporter of the Sister Cities relationship from the very start.
For years, Prof. Sevin has vigorously supported academic exchange and partnerships between Germany and the United States of America. In May of 2005, he was part of a delegation from Vanderbilt University in Nashville headed by Chancellor Gordon Gee that visited Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg to promote partnerships between the two schools. Prof. Sevin played a crucial role in making this meeting possible.
Prof. Sevin has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contributions to transatlantic dialog. We would like congratulate him on behalf of all the members of the Dialog Center and express our appreciation for having such a friend in Nashville.
Greetings from Prof. Dieter Sevin
We received the following message for Prof. Dieter Sevin in Nashville. He thanks the Dialog Center for the congratulations on his being awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany:
Dear Friends in Magdeburg,
Many thanks for the congratulations. Our Sister City means a great deal to me and I am pleased at the encounters on so many levels. Everything we imagined and hoped when we visited Magdeburg as a small delegation for the first time of four now ten years ago, has become marvelous reality in and many people – on both sides of the Atlantic – continue to contribute to this pleasingly dynamic development.
With best wishes for the future and warm Greetings from Nashville.
Your,
Dieter Sevin
